Saint Dymphna is remembered as a young Irish martyr who fled rather than submit to her father’s abusive and incestuous intentions. Because of her story, she is especially petitioned by survivors of childhood sexual abuse, incest, rape, domestic abuse, coercion, and oppression. She is also the patron saint of those living with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and other mental or emotional illnesses.
This vigil may be set to seek Saint Dymphna’s intercession for peace of mind, personal safety, emotional strength, recovery from trauma, and freedom from oppressive circumstances. She may also be petitioned on behalf of caregivers and mental-health professionals seeking compassion, patience, and wisdom in their work. This spiritual work may accompany appropriate professional care and support.
Your vigil will be carefully dressed, blessed, petitioned, and burned on your behalf by Divine Harmony Spiritual Church. You will receive a photograph of your candle vigil.
